BOOMER SOONER!

Well, well, well...I just want to thank the newest fan to the SOONER Nation...Gavin. Eventhough Mommy left for the store, you remained to show maturity and composure throughout the BEDLAM game, by sleeping. I want to thank my son for allowing Dad and Papa to scream and yell at the TV, while you stayed in a deep sleep. These photos are probably not for the faint of heart!! BOOMER SOONER!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

What I am thankful for:

1. Family: What would we do without you? We have had a rough last couple of months, and without our family I don't think we would have made it.
2. Church Family: Wow, what a great support! We are thankful for everything each of you have done for us.
3. Friends: We are thankful for your love, support, and UNDERSTANDING!
4. All of the Heart Baby Families: Erika, Jay and Baby Samson: you all have definitely been an inspiration, we hope to meet you some day, thank you for being there when I needed to talk, I hope your phone bill will not be high! The Wrights: we are thankful for the encouraging emails, pictures and visits. We are so blessed to have you in our lives. We pray that Joshua continues to stay healthy. The Crulls: we are thankful for the inspiring emails, phone calls, visits, letters, and pictures drawn by Jaxson himself! I can see it now, Jaxson and Gavin showing off their "life lines". We love you all and the many other heart families who have reached out to us!
But most of all We are thankful for our precious son! Thank you God for blessing us with such a beautiful little boy!

Gavin is Home Again!!

We were discharged from the hospital this afternoon. Gavin is doing much better! The doctors believe that he had some kind of stomach virus and that he was dehydrated. I told the doctors that we do not take him anywhere, except for appts. and to OKC, he said that he could get a virus from just sitting at home. Gavin had a rough day on Monday, when I pulled up to the peditrician office, Gavin was gasping for air in his carseat, he started to change colors, I screamed at him and tapped his foot, he let out a gasp and started crying. The doctors believe that this was not due to his heart condition, they believe it was because he is sick and was choking because he was congested. But I was prepared to do CPR, and I am thankful I didnt have to!! Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Please continue to pray for Gavin and that he stays healthy!

Update

Thanks to all who prayed for Gavin yesterday. He seems to be much better today! We had to take him to the hospital because of vomitting and diahrrea. We were concerned because if Gavin doesnt stay well hydrated it can cause his heart to not function properly. We are taking him to the peditrician today and they may do an ultrasound to rule out some kind of stomach thing that 1 month old boys get (Very common) sorry I cant remember the name. We will be stuck in the house for Thanksgiving, but we dont mind, we will be putting up Christmas decorations, Adam is so excited ;) We will post more pictures soon! Happy Thanksgiving!

ONE MONTH

Gavin is one month old today... we think he is a genius. He can already roll over, hold his pacifier in his mouth with his hands, and he puts his hands over his bottle. We are not crazy, we have witnesses! We cant believe he is already a month old and we have only had him home for a week!

The Trip Home

We are finally home! Adam didnt get to join us on the way home because Gavin was not discharged until after 6pm and Adam had a test, he had to head back to Broken Arrow before us. Gavin slept the entire way home. We stopped at our family friends house that we were staying with to gather our stuff, eat dinner, and tell them good bye. Gavin started out in his "take home outfit" but after our stop and him throwing up all over his outfit, he ended up in an outfit that his Aunt Erin and Uncle Jon gave him. (Thank you for that, otherwise I dont know what we would have put on him!) All of his clothes are extremely big on him because he is so small, so that is why his outfit looks huge on him! I cant believe we are actually home, it was a long 3 1/2 weeks, and we are definately glad it is over! It has been a wonderful experience having Gavin at home, he is such a miracle. I stare at him all day! We have had a hard time sleeping not because Gavin doesnt sleep (he is a VERY good sleeper), mainly because we are paranoid. He has a monitor that beeps at us if he stops breathing or his heart rate drops but I just cant find myself to fully rely on it. I know in the coming weeks it will get better and we will sleep better. Please continue to pray for Gavin as we are in the winter season and we do not want him to get RSV or any other illness. Home health care will come in every month to give him his RSV shot, replace oxygen tanks and check on Gavin. We will be taking him to the peditrician tomorrow and to the cardiologist next week, so we pray that he stays healthy as we take him out. Thank you again for your continued support and prayers. We will continue to update everyone on this website as Gavin has his other surgeries and as he grows! We love you all!

One step closer to coming home!

We spent our first night with Gavin last night. He was moved to a room yesterday afternoon. The surgical unit is so full that Gavin is sharing a room with another heart baby. We were so proud of Gavin, he slept most of the night, we had to wake him up for every feeding. However, Mommy and Daddy had NO sleep, due to nurses coming in and out, lights be turned off and on, Mommy being paranoid checking on Gavin every secound, and the other heart baby cried most of the night. We had fun though actually getting to play the part as his parents. They are allowing us to do most of the work! Gavin pulled out his feeding tube last night, the nurses left it out for a little bit to see if he would drink all of his bottle. He drank all of it but 15cc out of 50cc. So they had to put the tube back in. The surgeon came in today and took out Gavins pacemaker wires, and draining tube! He said that Gavin is doing great and expects us to be at home by the beginning of the week as long as Gavin continues to drink most of his bottle. We are so excited, we never thought this moment would come! Well I better get back to Gavin, just thought I would give a quick update!! We will post more pics later. Love you all!

More Pictures

Here are pictures from today....

Ventilator is Gone, Gavin is moving to his own room!

Faith here, There is so much to tell.... he was taken off his ventilator yesterday, he had 15cc of milk by bottle last night, (and I got to hold him all night!! Adam had class, but he will get to hold him tonight) today I gave him a sponge bath, and I got to breast feed for the first time. He did great! We are so proud of him, we think he is very smart. Tomorrow morning the plan is to move him to the surgical unit where Adam and I will stay with him and learn how to take care of him, give him meds, feed him, etc before we take him home. The doctor said that if Gavin does well over the weekend we may be able to take him home by next weekend!!!! We are trying to not get too excited though, things change a lot! But we will pray that Gavin stays in good shape and we get to come home! The nurse lectured me about RSV, and how important it is to keep Gavin home for the next 4 months, especially with the winter months. I completely understand but I am ready to show him off, I will just have to take lots of pictures while we are at home. We have to do what is best for Gavin because we do NOT want to be back in ICU. We are ready to be home!!! Here are some more pictures of Gavin, thank you for your continued prayers and words of encouragement. We love you all!

Our Little Pumpkin!

Faith here, Thank you all for your prayers today, it was a stressful day but we all got through it! Gavin opened his eyes and stared at us this evening, he looked like he was a lot happier! Gavin is getting blood tonight because his blood count was low, please pray that he continues to heal and we dont have anymore set backs! The nurse said that they will take him off the ventilator early tomorrow morning as long as everything goes well this evening, however they will leave the chest tube in to continue to drain his left lung if they need to. I was able to "lift" Gavin up today while they changed his bedding, so here are some pictures! Thanks again for your continued prayers!

Tuesday Morning Update II

Surgeon has finished the procedure with the chest tube. They drained about 2 oz of fluid off Gavin's lung and he immediately began breathing better. Surgeon says this is somewhat typical in these situations and Gavin will have these types of ups and downs for awhile; it's all part of the process. Surgeon did say that other than this, Gavin is continuing to improve and doing real well. Thanks for the continued prayers!

Tuesday Morning Update

Adam and Faith have asked to please keep Gavin in your prayers today. He has some fluid on his left lung so the surgeon is going to do a procedure this morning to insert a chest tube that will hopefully drain the fluid. If this doesn't work, the plan is to insert a chest tube in the right lung also. Thank you for your continued prayers for Gavin and the family. We'll update again as soon as we have new information. God is good!

Sunday Update

Gavin is still on the ventilator, the doctor said maybe tomorrow or Tuesday they will try to take him off again. The nurse informed us today that Gavins white blood cell count is a little high, they did a culture to see if he has an infection. We should have the results by tomorrow. This can be common with infants that are on ventilators (respiratory infections). Otherwise, Gavin is doing very well and he is getting lots of rest. Thank you again for your continued prayers. Here are some pics from our visit today.

Morning Update

This morning we received a phone call from the nurse. Gavin is back on the ventilator. He had a hard time breathing overnight. We were just in there holding him!! Please pray for Gavin. We know he will be a fighter as usual and hopefully he will have it out again soon.
